Brandt Bhanu Passalacqua
A yoga therapist and massage therapist working in New York City and Northampton, MA

I have a private practice helping people with
  • weight loss and other eating challenges
  • injuries
  • chronic illness
I have been in practice since 2002 helping people to lose weight and regain their vitality.

Yoga is the integration of all aspects of our being so that we may realize our full potential.

I work with people as individuals. I don't ask my clients to work in a specific style; instead, I build practices for your individual needs.

Typical yoga therapy sessions can include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices), and meditation. I also act as a food coach.

Everyone can do yoga. Don't worry about flexibility, strength, or skill. If you can breathe, you can do yoga. I adapt the practice to meet your needs.

My bodywork sessions are informed by many styles. Some examples include:
  • Myofacial release work on the table for injury and pain
  • Shiatsu/accupressure work for autoimmune conditions or depression
  • Thai yoga massage for increased energy and well being.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy applies yoga teachings to help individuals heal themselves. These teachings include:
  • Asana (posture)
  • Pranayama (breath work)
  • Meditation
Yoga therapy takes a holistic approach to mental, spiritual, and health concerns.

The goal of yoga therapy is to help ease your suffering, whether it manifests as an injury, anxiety, depression, or chronic health issues.

What is a Yoga Therapist?

A yoga therapist is trained in yoga-based philosophy, yoga practices, and anatomy - he or she applies these to help clients with their individual concerns. While yoga classes can be beneficial, the yoga therapist personalizes and modifies yoga practices specifically to suit the person in front of them.

Who can benefit from Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy can benefit anyone who is experiencing a difficult issue that they have not been able to satisfactorily resolve. These might include:
  • chronic muscular/skeletal issues (like low back pain or unresolved injuries)
  • stress-related conditions (including insomnia, headaches, or anxiety)
  • long-term illness (such as chronic autoimmune disorders)
  • conditions that cross many lines (like obesity)
Seeing a yoga therapist can also be of support in spiritual crises, and help guide those who seek a clearer view of their own spiritual nature.

Individual yoga therapy instruction is useful for new or experienced yoga practitioners. The yoga therapist works with the client to develop a personal practice that addresses his or her individual strengths and weaknesses, helps in gaining a fresh perspective, and provides a strong foundation for wellness.

My Story

At 30, I found myself with an autoimmune disease, overweight, and confused.

At my peak I was 100 pounds heavier than I am now. I had gained the weight slowly over ten years or so. I've always loved food, but I was disconnected from how it made me feel. And, looking back, I had many obsessive food behaviors. I ate when happy, when depressed, when bored...
